This Caterpillar engine uses Keystone piston rings. Keystone piston rings are designed to expand during the engine compression stroke. Keystone piston rings will not fully expand at engine cranking speeds. This can cause erratic cylinder compression readings. Therefore, Caterpillar does not recommend compression testing on engines using Keystone piston rings.
